Propagation works without any help โ€” many cuttings root in plain water given enough time. But a good rooting aid stacks the odds in your favor: faster roots, stronger root systems, and fewer cuttings lost to rot along the way. The catch is that most people use them wrong. Here's how to get it right.

What a Rooting Aid Actually Does

A cutting has to switch from being a stem into growing roots โ€” a real biological transition. Rooting aids provide the signals and nutrients that encourage this shift: compounds that prompt root initiation, plus nutrients that support the cutting while it has no roots to feed itself. The result is a cutting that roots sooner and builds a denser, healthier root system.

The Golden Rule: Less Is More

The single most common mistake is overdosing. A rooting concentrate is exactly that โ€” concentrated. More product does not mean faster roots. In water propagation, too much added nutrient actually feeds bacteria and algae, clouding the water and putting your cutting at risk of rot. A few drops in a jar is genuinely all you need.

Plantiqo Enrich Propagation Drops are dosed for this: a small number of drops per cup of water. If you're using a little propagation tube, that's just a drop or two. Resist the urge to add more โ€” a little goes a long way.

How to Use Enrich in Water

Start clean. Use a clean vessel and fresh water.

Dose lightly. Add 5โ€“8 drops per 8 oz (about a cup) of water โ€” far less for small tubes.

Submerge the node, not the leaves. Roots emerge from nodes; leaves left in water rot.

Refresh every few days. Change the water and re-dose every 3โ€“4 days to keep it clean and oxygenated. Don't leave it a full week.

Keep it bright, not sunny. Bright indirect light speeds rooting; direct sun grows algae.

Setting Expectations

A rooting aid speeds and strengthens the process โ€” it doesn't replace patience or good technique. Combine a light, correct dose with clean water and bright indirect light, and you'll see roots emerge sooner and stronger than water alone. That's the whole point: not magic, just better odds.
